10th Indian Horticulture Congress-2023
Horticulture sector is moving at a fast pace owing to its immense potential in improving nutrition and wellbeing, raising farmincome, generating employment opportunities and earning foreign exchange. The horticulture sector has also recognized as a
major driver of growth in agriculture by contributing nearly 30 per cent to the agriculture gross domestic product (GDP).
The area and production of horticulture crops are increasing year by year and presently covers 28.08 million ha with annual production of 342.3 million tonnes. Keeping with emerging demands, rapid technological advancement in different area including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Big Data and Next Generation Sequencing and Genome Editing etc. are creating new avenues for precise cultivation and designing of new crop varieties in horticulture.
To discuss the recent advancements and define the future course, the Academy is organising congress biennially since 2004 and 9 such congresses were organised in different parts of the country. It is proposed to hold the 10th Indian Horticulture Congress-2023 at Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam from 6 to 9 November, 2023. The following broad themes have been identified for the congress.
